What can you do for us that our high school coach can't do?
While most high school coaches would love to help their athletes garner scholarship offers, the fact is, most simply do not have the resources to do so. The best way for you to compare your H.S. coach's college connections vs. College Prospect's professional rapport with colleges nationwide, is to ask him "How many seniors did you find scholarships for in last year's graduating class here at ABC H.S.?" Then give Mr. Rock a call at his Western PA. CPOA PA office and ask him the same question.
My son/daughter is only a junior. Are we too early for enrollment?
Your junior year is the most important year in high school for your academic and athletic stats. By the time you are a senior, the college coaches have already assembled the athletes they want to follow and often your senior stats come in too late to impress a college decision-maker.
Do you have video editing services available?
Yes. Our corporate video department is available to all of our enrollees, as well as to area athletes not enrolled in College Prospects.
"I know I can play in college, but only a few local college coaches have called, and I'd like a better opportunity. Is that possible?"
Chances are that a lot of coaches would be interested but they have never heard of you, much less that you might be available to them.
What can I learn at the workshop?
The workshops were created out of need because there is an overwhelming amount of families every year that would love their kids to compete in college yet have no real direction as to how to get started or navigate through the process. Our content can benefit athletes of all playing levels from first year varsity players looking to get started to seasoned All District and All Area players looking to get an edge. The workshops help students understand exactly what they need to do to increase their chances of playing on scholarship at a school they choose.
Why the workshop?
It's no secret that although most families are exposed to some type of recruiting information through their school or club, there's almost no support system available to ensure the kids are on the right track. Since this will be a first time experience for most families, they find themselves on their own trying to piece together any information they can find. Rarely does someone sit down with a family and detail exactly what needs to be done (letters to write, questions to ask, etc) and then educate the families with the details of the process, making sure they avoid the pitfalls most families run into. Even families, who have already experienced the process through an older sibling, claim that there was so much they learned that they did not know the first time
I can understand that the workshop may help those kids who haven't yet started the process, however I've been getting a lot of letters from colleges already, what benefit is there in attending for me?
While it may seem for the time being that everything is great based on the letters and feedback you've received, please be cautious. Most families come to a rude wakening once their junior year is over because they realize they were not as heavily recruited as they once thought. It's what we call "The Trap" of college recruiting. It will happen every year without fail with All State , All Area, All Dist and club players who seem to have things going very favorably, yet because they never really understood the process, are puzzled as to why things suddenly come to a screeching halt in the summer after their junior year. You want to make sure you are always in the driver seat so this does not happen to you.
Will I be sold anything at the workshop?
No, although CPOA does offer services, those services are discussed at the workshops. If a family wants to find out more, they can request to be contacted.
How can you do it for free?
College Prospects of America does the workshops as communities service and therefore do not charge attendance.
If I am interested, how can you get involved to help my son or daughter have many options of schools to choose from?
If you would like more detailed info on the CPOA services, please click on Services.
How much do your services cost?
Because every family's situation is unique, the cost of the program will vary depending on the individual student athlete's situation and needs. The fees are by contract and can range from a few hundred dollars and up depending on what a family is looking for. In almost every case however, the fee is not an issue because of the results we are committed to deliver and it is always returned several times fold in the form of institutional financial awards. But don't worry, we're not talking thousands of dollars, we've created an affordable avenue for a family to maximize their opportunities for both athletic and academic financial awards.
What happens if nothing happens, is there a guarantee?
Due to NCAA regulations and some barriers beyond our control, we cannot offer a guarantee of a scholarship. A guarantee would indicate that we were representing the athlete as an agent and would therefore compromise their eligibility to participate in college. However, we will not help an athlete if we do not feel we can significantly improve their odds of attaining a place to play. Only those student athletes with the necessary academic and athletic credentials are considered. We are very selective in the students we help and therefore can assure that results will be attained.
So you turn away families?
Yes, and quite often if we feel we cannot help the athlete or that they would not receive a significant amount of success as we have seen with past athletes in their sport, we reserve the right to deny participation in the program.
What is the success rate of the program?
We are committed to the best interest of the student athlete and will stop at nothing to make sure they have every resource available to help them through the recruiting process. Not counting those who choose to leave the sport or not play in college by choice, every one of the kids we help will receive offers to play if they are truly committed to their scholarship search. That said, we have a 100% success rate in Western Pennsylvania over the last seven years.
